For most homes, yes. Old single-pane and worn-out windows let a lot of heat in and cooled air out, so your AC runs longer. Energy-efficient replacements with Low-E glass and insulated panes cut the solar heat coming through your windows and seal out air leaks, which lightens the cooling load. Exact savings depend on your home, how many windows you replace, and what you start with — but lower summer cooling bills are the most common result our customers notice.

Three things. Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings reflect the sun's heat back outside while still letting light in. Insulated glass — two or three panes with argon gas between them — slows heat transfer. And a low SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) blocks solar heat, which is the number that matters most in Houston, especially on west- and south-facing walls. Low-E is a microscopically thin, invisible coating on the glass that reflects heat. In our climate it's one of the single biggest factors in both comfort and cooling cost, so we recommend it on virtually every Houston job.
